Week 5: IND Colts
Raiders MVP: Ashton Jeanty
After compiling 109 total yards, Jeanty was the most productive Raider aside from anything Geno Smith did. There were opportunities for recievers to have big games but even Jeanty had better games than most through the air. Guys like Tre Tucker needed to have bigger games even though he did have a couple big catches.
Raiders Offensive MVP: Ashton Jeanty
He takes home the prize yet it wasn't all that convincing. No huge runs like last week and his biggest run was only 12 yards. He needs to be able to break the big run if he is going to demand more attention from opposing defenses.
Raiders Defensive MVP: DT Adam Butler
Butler was doing all that he could to bring results to the Raiders defense in a game where there was little to cheer about. He was providing maximum effort and trying to get after the quarterback. He had a telling play late in the game in which he hustled to get the receiver as he was running towards the first down marker. Even on an offsides penalty, he was trying to time the quarterback's cadence at the line. He got caught but was showing intense concentration in a game that was getting of reach.
Breakout Player: WR Jack Bech
Bech had been waiting to get his opportunity but in a game that lacked explosiveness, he gets the nod because he did a lot of things right. He had sure hands and tried to track the ball in the air. He's a bigger body that has potential to stay in the rotation.
Player in Regression: Geno Smith
QB Geno Smith is having a disastrous start to the season. He is not performing up to the standard of the team neither coach Pete Carroll. He is forcing the ball into tight coverage and really not addressing things that are creating congestion. Basically, he needs to look for Jeanty out of the backfield and get his tight ends involved early. Unfortunately, they didn't have Bowers or Mayer but still semi-production would've kept the game a little closer. Also, tape also shows that he is missing the open receiver in his reads. As a veteran, this is not acceptable as he is even letting his emotion fly when he commits turnovers.
