Getting a Back on Track (Vol. 9)

Ashton Jeanty has somewhat struggled this year but the biggest takeaway I think will be a dearth of running lanes. He like commentator Troy Aikman said has not been able to soar because he gets hit behind the line of scrimmage more than any other running back. This is a guy that was drafted no. 6 overall and has not produced like a generational running back, but the good news is it is still early in the process. Jeanty has conducted himself super well but he still needs to take pride in the offense and take pressure off Geno no matter how little room he is getting out there. He also has whiffed on throws outside in the passing game but he needs reps. Apparently, he is getting more targets but he needs to develop consistency. I'm sure it's disconcerting to not know how the rest of the season is going to go because I'm sure he wants to produce. It seems he is not getting enough carries either because they rushed the ball last night in a Monday Night Football game against the DAL Cowboys for a staggering low amount, signaling that they are missing push up front. It will take some time before the Raiders will see how to use him best. They also said it was a risk taking a running back so high in the draft and should have focused on balancing their guys on the line of scrimmage, getting some beef up front. Especially if they are looking to rebuild, as it seems they are in between trying to win and rebuilding. Makes it harder to sustain a winning culture.

This week against the PHI Eagles, the Raiders had a tough test. It was clear that if their retooled offensive line could spark any changes in the interior it would mean better production from Jeanty.
